The Lacquer Chest

As Kensington Church Street gently winds up the hill towards Notting Hill Gate you’ll find two, beautiful pale-blue antique shops – The Lacquer Chest, and Lacquer  Chest Too. A pioneering antique shop that started out selling objects that nobody else sold - and they still do.

A recent visitor to the shop exclaimed –
"Are there any more shops like this in the street?"

David Sedaris, a New York humorist, who happened to overhear the remark replied –
"There are'n't any more shops like this ANYWHERE ! where else can you find a collection of 36 hot water bottles!"
